Removing "Wordpress Theme" from designed by Box

Question

I'm working on my first theme using version 5, but I'm having trouble removing the words "Wordpress Theme" in the "designed by" box in footer. See pic below.



I can click on the box and backspace the words out. But when I save and reopen the file, the words "Wordpress Theme" are back again!

Hopefully someone can advise on how to edit these words out, so they stay gone?

I've managed to fix this by downloading latest version of software. The version I was using was reporting *no updates available", but on checking site I could see this was not the case!
