wordpress theme issues

I'm seeing two issues with a theme I've made for Wordpress;

1. The static front page isn't working, no matter the settings it keeps showing the posts page on the home page. Changing to twentyfourteen theme the static page works, switch back to the TT theme and it doesn't. I already tried disabling all plugins, and the problem still is there. Any ideas?

2. If I make a wordpress theme with a sidebar, when I load the theme the sidebar has sidebar menu, search, and calendar widget blocks in it, yet when you look at the widget area in the admin panel, the sidebar in question shows no widgets in it. Those 3 items automatically are appearing and I can't see any way to get rid of them. Help?

I am having the same issues with the unwanted modules/widgets I cant find how to get rid of. I am using the latest beta version
